watercolor on Arches paper
Several weeks ago, I took a wonderful watercolor workshop with Jean Haines where I started a painting of the Alhambra Palace. I got some great feedback from Jean and based upon that, I did this second painting of it at home (done without a pencil sketch). I am not sure if it is complete, but I will let it be for now.

Looks FABULOUS!!!!! I hope you had a great holiday!!! I'm signing up for her next class in October -- hope you will too!
Hello Lin! Thanks so much. Hoping you and yours had a wonderful holiday as well. Many congrats on your new addition to the family and hoping you will have a wonderful new year:)
I would love to do another workshop-just loved that rush of positive energy and inspiration!
Beautiful drawing and wonderful tonal range make this a striking image. Lovely.
Thanks so much Mick,
I think I like the colors and tonal range in this one more than the first one. I find it helpful to go back to the same subject more than once.
Hope you are enjoying the holidays!
As you say, going back to a subject again can be very useful...you know it better, and I think this often has a positive effect on a later attempt. Your first one was lovely, but there's something even more appealing about this one. It feels 'finished' to me - I like what is not physically there as much as what is...
Hello Lisa,
Your comments on this painting are extremely helpful, as I was still wondering whether to continue with this one. I think I may indeed have to let it be where it is, so thanks for stopping by and letting me know your thoughts.
Doing another version has also helped me feel more comfortable with working without a pencil sketch, so we will see where that takes me:)
the composition of the facade is beautiful like ths sophia.
Thanks so much Jane. I had a lot of fun working on this one.
Your work is so peaceful...
Thanks so much Pea. It's nice of you to say that. It's not unlike the feeling conveyed in this space.
